Description
GHS "Progressives" Alloy Wound Singles
GHS advertises the Progressive strings like this: These strings will test your strength and tone, by using a combination of premium core wire and a 'Filament Grade Alloy'. This alloy is the same strong wire used in automotive headlights and is magnetically activated to pull the tone through your pickups. And the description from their website: Our magnetically active Alloy 52™ is wound around a hex core wire, producing a string with a powerful sound, sustain and excellent longevity. These will magnify any playing style.
"I don't know how much of that is hype, but I do know that these strings work well on a steel guitar. The tone is brighter than nickel wound, but not as bright as stainless. These singles (we carry gauges PR22 thru PR54) use the same alloy as the GHS Americana sets for pedal steel, but without the cryogenic treatment." - Bobby Lee
